Backstreet Restaurant is located on Nelson, between Brockton Ave. and Magnolia Ave..
Originally The Back Street had a sign which hung from the silver pole still located on the street. It was hand made from solid oak in the shape of a crest, similar to the menu board inside. In 1967 the sign was stolen and presumed gone forever. Two years later while catering a housewarming for one of Riverside's prominent lawyers, the sign was discovered by an employee in the garage, part of a "collection" of the previous tenant. By now The Back Street was famous as "that place without a sign" and Mac & Barb decided not to return the sign to its original place
In 1987 friends of Mac and Barb retrieved an illuminated sign from a Costa Mesa woman's shop that was going out of business with the same name. the sign was refitted, installed, and wired without Mac or Barb's knowledge and presented on the 20th anniversary of The Back Street.
